Into the Beautiful ~ by Emily Dickinson
Into the Beautiful ~ by Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson is one of our polestars here at the Press, and it is a pleasure to present a favorite poem of hers: #935 in the collected poems, which we’ve taken the liberty of titling Into the Beautiful. It is a deeply moving meditation on the transformation of seasons, from summer to autumn. We’ve accompanied the poem with two nature illustrations, hand-printed directly from beech leaves from our tree here at the Press. All in a miniature booklet 2.5” x 3.5”.
Handset in Bembo text types (cast by the Bixler Letterfoundry) and Civilité titling (ATF).
Letterpress printed in two colors on our 1909 Golding Pearl foot-treadled press.
Interior papers are Mohawk Superfine soft-white, with flyleaf of Thai banana leaf and cover of St Armand handmade.
Illustrations hand-printed directly from dried beech leaves.
Hand-sewn with Irish linen thread.
Size: 2.5” tall x 3.5” wide
Limited edition of 36 numbered copies.
The complete poem, as sourced in Mabel Loomis Todd’s 1891 edition of Dickinson’s poems (public domain).
